Burton's Win Stretches Dons' Winless Run

Wimbledon's run without a league win is now seven after they sank to a 3-2 defeat at in-form Burton Albion on Saturday (26 November).

Manager Terry Brown was again left lamenting his side's defensive performance, telling the Hounslow Chronicle: "Our defending was suicidal at times. Our keeper made some good saves, too, or it could have been worse.

"We have got to do a lot of work on the whole team defending, not just the back four. Only then will we start picking up some league points."

The Dons' defensive frailties were perfectly illustrated just before the half hour when Brett Johnson was faced with an easy ball to clear but inexplicably ducked out of the header, leaving Burton striker Billy Kee to nip in, evade Seb Brown's desperate attempt to salvage the situation and then slot home.

That was Kee's eleventh goal in 10 games as he had already put the home side ahead in the 15th minute, outmuscling Ricky Wellard and Jamie Stuart following a looping ball into the box before shooting home.

The Dons pulled it back to 2-1 on the stroke of half time, Rashid Yussuff's effort from the edge of the box falling kindly for Luke Moore to score from close range for his second goal in as many games.

But the home side restored their two-goal cushion just past the hour, when Stuart bravely blocked Jacques Maghoma's effort only for the rebound to fall to Adam Bolder, who blasted home giving Brown no chance.

The Dons got their second with eight minutes left when Burton defender Aaron Webster only succeeded in diverting Sam Hatton's low right-wing cross into the back of his own net.

And they had a strong penalty appeal in the closing seconds when James Mulley appeared to be fouled in the box, but referee Steve Tanner awarded a free-kick to the home side for a subsequent infringement by Chris Bush.

The Dons' attentions now turn to the FA Cup with a trip to League Two strugglers Bradford City next weekend for the right to take a place with the big guns in the Third Round draw. They then have the chance to finally end that luckless league run when they host Accrington Stanley on 10 December.
