Plymouth Argyle 0 v Wimbledon 2

A Jack Midson brace earned Wimbledon their second 2-0 away win in four days as they beat Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday night (16 August).

The former Oxford man got his pair in the space of six early second-half minutes. First he shot home from a central position after Christian Jolley nodded down Ricky Wellard's deep cross.

And then he was on hand when Sammy Moore's cross was only partially cleared by the home defence, pouncing to send the ball past ex-Don Jake Cole in the Plymouth goal.

It marked a remarkable turnaround for the Dons as they went on to dominate the second period just as much as Plymouth had dominated the first.

Tom Hitchcock and Conor Hourihane had both missed first-half opportunities to give the home side the lead, both forcing solid saves from Seb Brown in the Wimbledon goal.

But Brown nearly undid that good work when his attempted pass to Sam Hatton fell way short and was intercepted by Hitchcock; the keeper's blushes were saved when Hitchcock overran the ball and a heavy touch allowed Brown to smother at his feet.

Brown was soon again in action, this time saving from Luke Daley. Daley evaded both Gareth Gwillim and Lee Minshull to create space in the box, but Brown turned around his effort to concede a corner.

But the Dons did have chances of their own, most notably when Hatton's deep corner was headed back into the goal area by Minshull, only for Jamie Stuart to head over when well placed at close range.

Half-time saw manager Terry Brown replace Minshull and Charles Ademeno with Wellard and Jolley, and soon they had reaped the rewards when both were involved in setting up Midson's opener.

The Dons continued to push forward after the second goal and Jolley's run and pass, expertly left by Midson, set up Rashid Yussuff but his effort across the face of goal was just wide with Midson lurking in the middle.

There was still time for Luke Moore's spectacular effort from the edge of the box to force a save from Cole, and by this time Plymouth's confidence had visibly evaporated.

Manager Brown told the club's official website: "I was glad to be able to get the boys into the dressing room at half time with a clean sheet.

"We are in the nice position at the moment where I can look at the bench in the knowledge that I can not only bring on fresh legs but also quality players. Both Christian Jolley and Ricky Wellard made a real contribution to a first-class second-half display."

The Dons will be hoping to stretch their winning streak to three games when they entertain bottom club Hereford United at Kingsmeadow on Saturday (20 August) before travelling to Macclesfield Town the following week.
