Wimbledon Draw Changes Brown's Fortune

Hayes & Yeading 0 v Wimbledon 0

Wimbledon manager Terry Brown finally ended his Church Road hoodoo as the Dons drew 0-0 at Hayes & Yeading on Tuesday night (1 March) – but it was a disappointing performance from his side.

Before Tuesday, the Dons boss – who was Hayes manager from 1993 to 2002 – hadn’t picked up so much as a point when returning to his former stomping ground. But it was a low-key game with few goalscoring opportunities as neither side impressed.

The highlight of the first half came when Seb Brown pulled off a fantastic double save to deny the home side the lead. First he pulled off a point-blank save from Jefferson Louis’s volley and then somehow scrambled to recover and turn Bradley Prichard’s follow-up effort onto the post before the ball was scrambled away.

Steven Gregory came closest to giving the Dons the lead, with a swerving 25-yard effort that was gathered by Delroy Preddie, but it wasn’t until late on in the second half that the Dons finally fashioned a couple of golden goalscoring opportunities.

Jamie Stuart had an effort cleared off the line, and then substitute Christian Jolley was perceptive to cross to Rashid Yussuff – probably the Dons’ best player on the night – but with the goal at his mercy the midfielder miscontrolled and the chance was gone.

The game ended with Jolley bursting into the box only to be denied at the last by an excellent tackle by Charlie Wassmer to typify an evening of unfulfilled potential.

The Dons travel to Grimsby Town on Saturday (5 March) before hosting Kidderminster Harriers at Kingmseadow a week later.

• The Dons’ game at Crawley Town on Friday 18 March has been made all-ticket with the Dons receiving just 600 tickets. Ticket sale details are expected to be posted on the club’s website this weekend.
