Below-Par Dons Sink To York Defeat

York City 4 v Wimbledon 1

Wimbledon’s rollercoaster season continued on Tuesday (1 February) as they slumped to a 4-1 defeat at play-off hopefuls York City.

The Dons remain top of the table despite the defeat, albeit only by one point from both Luton (who have two games in hand) and Crawley Town  (who have four games in hand).

It was a sluggish performance throughout from the Dons, who failed to build on last week’s 2-0 win at Gateshead.

They fell behind after quarter of an hour when Daniel Parslow glanced home an Ashley Chambers free-kick to give York the lead.

And that deficit was doubled on the stroke of half-time when James Meredith beat the offside trap to slot past Seb Brown.

Christian Jolley gave the Dons some home when he reduced the arrears after 63 minutes, blasting home off the underside of the bar from a tight angle.

But those hopes were extinguished seven minutes later when Michael Rankine fired home a spectacular long-range effort, before Chambers rounded off the scoring by rifling home into the top corner of the net.

The Dons will be looking to exact some revenge when they host York at Kingsmeadow on 12 February. Before then, they face another tricky home game against Fleetwood Town this Saturday (5 February).
