Rampant Wimbledon Notch Five

Mansfield Town 2 v Wimbledon 5

Rampant Wimbledon bounced back in style from Saturday’s disappointing draw against Forest Green, beating Mansfield Town 5-2 at Field Mill on Tuesday night (5 October).

Mansfield had won their previous home games 5-0 and 4-0 but found themselves a goal down after just 11 seconds when midfielder Sammy Moore slotted home after being set up by Christian Jolley.

And minutes later it was 2-0, Jolley netting his sixth goal of the campaign by capitalising on a sloppy Chris Smith header to lift the ball over Andy Marriott.

Mansfield then capped a period of pressure by pulling a goal back just after the half hour mark, pulled a goal back just after the half hour mark, Paul Connor heading home from an Ashley Cain cross.

But with the home side looking dangerous Danny Kedwell helped kill off their hopes with a third for the Dons on the stroke of half-time, rounding Marriott after a one-on-one to tap home.

Marriott then made a fine save from a Sammy Moore drive but after the break the Dons pulled further away.

First youngster Ryan Jackson ran down the right before smashing the ball past substitute goalkeeper Neil Collett, and then Sammy Moore got his second of the game with a looping effort from inside the six-yard box.

Louis Briscoe had the final say with Mansfield’s consolation second, but that couldn’t take the gloss off the performance for Dons boss Terry Brown. Afterwards he told the Wimbledon Guardian: “It was a memorable performance against a very good Mansfield side.

“I’m really pleased because we played a really good side: they scored two and they could have had three or four, so it wasn’t quite as easy as the scoreline suggested. Our football was splendid.”

On Saturday (9 October) the Dons travel to face Wrexham in another Blue Square Bet Premier clash.
