Pub Site Scheme "To Be Re-Worked"

Opponents claim a small victory

Plans to demolish an empty Wimbledon Chase pub and replace it with 57 flats and retail units are said to be being re-worked.

The Wimbledon Chase Residents' Association (WCRA) is opposing the plans for the Emma Hamilton site in Kingston Road (left).

They say the five-storey block (below) being planned by Stadium Capital Holdings is too big and will dominate the area.

Now the scheme's opponents say Merton council planning officers have told the developers the plans are "unlikely" to be approved as they are, because of their height and mass.

A WCRA spokesperson said: "This is the best we could have hoped for at this stage. We can take heart from this. However, we must not be complacent. This is merely a small victory in a longer battle."

But a spokesman for the developers said: "We are awaiting the Council's comments and will consider our response when we have them."

What do you think? Why not comment on the forum thread on the Emma Hamilton site?
