Wimbledon 0 v Millwall 1

The Dons continued their pre-season warm-up with a narrow 0-1 defeat against Championship side Millwall on Friday night (July 16).

Lions manager Kenny Jackett named a strong starting team and they got off to a flying start when Brett Johnson was penalised for a foul in the box, Steve Morison stepping up to score from the spot after just eight minutes.

But the Dons also created chances of their own, with Jon Main having one golden opportunity and Danny Kedwell hitting the bar with a header.

Both sides’ goalkeepers were forced into good saves in the second half, with David Forde saving a Johnson header and substitute Wimbledon custodian Jack Turner making a double-save from first Gary Alexander and then Lewis Grabban on the follow-up.

Afterwards, Dons boss Terry Brown told The Surrey Comet: “I’m delighted – more pleased in defeat, in fact, than I have been after the other two matches [against Charlton and Maidenhead]. I thought we defended superbly and it was a fantastic workout for the boys.”

Next up for the Dons is a midweek visit to Corinthian-Casuals (Tuesday July 20) followed by a trip to Woking next Saturday (July 24).
