Maidenhead 0 v Wimbledon 3

Wimbledon continued their pre-season campaign with what eventually turned out to be a comfortable 3-0 win at Blue Square Bet South side Maidenhead United on Tuesday (July 13).

The Dons started with a side featuring several trialists, supplemented by Jack Turner, Ryan Jackson, Christian Jolley and Ricky Wellard. Despite this, it was the Dons who came closest to opening the deadlock in the first-half when the home ’keeper failed to hold a Wellard free-kick and Javonne Molloy was on hand to slot home, only to see the flag somewhat harshly deny him for offside.

Manager Terry Brown switched the entire team on the hour mark, bringing on what looks like being this season’s strongest line-up, and immediately the Dons grabbed the game by the scruff of its neck.

First Lee Minshull headed Luke Moore’s cross against the post, but moments later the two linked up again to create an opening for Danny Kedwell to calmly lifted the ball over the ’keeper.

Minutes later it was 2-0, Main netting from just a few yards out after good work by Rashid Yussuff, Sam Hatton and Luke Moore.

Kedwell then found time to miss a penalty, blasting high over the bar after a Maidenhead defender had handled on the line to prevent Main’s volley from extending the lead, but the Dons were now well on top.

Yussuff saw his effort cleared off the line before, in the dying minutes, Hatton unleashed an 18-yard drive to round off the 3-0 scoreline.

The Dons host Millwall at Kingsmeadow this coming Friday (July 16, 7.45pm kickoff).
