Two Metropolitan Police officers are to be charged in connection with a shooting that took place in Wimbledon.

On 3 December 2018 the specialist firearms officers discharged their weapons outside the Sainsbury's Local store on Haydons Road hitting a robbery suspect.

23-year-old Brooklyn McFarlane suffered non-fatal injuries with each officer firing a single shot. No sign of another firearm was found at the scene.

The incident occurred during a Flying Squad operation to thwart a planned heist

One of the officers, identified as NX1, has been charged with wounding with intent while the other, identified as MY55, has been charged with attempted wounding with intent.

The Crown Prosecution Service made the charges following a referral from the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which investigated the incident.

The IOPC has said it concluded its investigation in November 2019 and notified the CPS in January 2020 of possible charges.

A spokesperson for the IOPC said, "We examined the circumstances surrounding the shooting during a pre-planned operation in Haydons Road, Wimbledon, on 3 December 2018 which resulted in a man being taken to hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening."

Both officers are due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 25 November.
