A Message From Gerry Campbell, Acting Borough Commander Wandsworth Police

Updating residents & businesses on arrests, images and police numbers

Wandsworth Police has had a notable number of police officers deployed on the borough over the last 36 hours.  That continued on 10th August with the deployment of in excess of 250 uniform police officers who are supported by CID officers and PCSOs.|

We will continue to have extra officers on the streets of Wandsworth over the coming days and your local Safer Neighbourhoods Teams will be working in their wards.

You will now be aware that the streets and roads around Clapham Junction have now been re-opened.  I appreciate that these closures have caused a lot of disruption for you. I appreciate your patience and understanding as this was essential to record the scene and to maximise the collection of forensic evidence so that we can identify and arrest the suspects.

The police are using intelligence and information supplied to us by the public, the local authority and others to identify people involved in these senseless crimes. For example on the 9th & 10th we have arrested 22 people for a range of offences including burglary, theft, going equipped to steal and possession of offensive weapons as we investigate the disturbances, as we patrol the borough and as we conduct search warrant activity.  One such search warrant led to the recovery of stolen sports wear and perfume.

We will continue to conduct these arrest operations with your support.  The response from the community in supporting the police with information has been fantastic - thank you for this.
