Is Local Takeaway Restaurant the Best in South London?

Ambience Turkish restaurant on shortlist in 2016 British Takeaway Awards

A Wimbledon restaurant has received a nomination in this year’s British Takeaway Awards. Ambience Turkish Restaurant on Leopold Road is one of ten restaurants in South London in the running for the regional prize.

The shortlist also includes takeaways from East Dulwich, Eltham, Bermondsey, Gipsy Hill, Mitcham, Croydon and Hounslow.

Ambience offers a range of freshly prepared hot and cold Mezes and an array of grilled dishes. If you are a fan of the restaurant you can vote for them at www.thebtas.co.uk.

The five restaurants with the most votes will be on their way to the British Takeaway Awards at The Savoy in London on 5 December.

A spokesman for Ambience said: "We are happy once again to be nominated for such a great award and are relying on all our loyal  customers to helps us scoop this one to add to our best takeaway in the UK award we won earlier in the year."

The BTAs - which are run in association with Just Eat, a marketplace for online food delivery - are about celebrating the diverse range of cuisines and rewarding the contribution a nation of takeaway owners make to both their local communities and the UK economy.

Over the last month food fans in South London have been voting online and via post for their favourite takeaway. In no particular order, the ten restaurants that received the most nominations from their customers are:

Village Tandoori in East Dulwich (Indian) - 2015 finalist
Leone's in Eltham (BBQ/British)
Poppy Hana Japanese Restaurant in Bermondsey (Japanese)
Jaflong in East Dulwich (Indo-Bangla)- 2015 finalist
Eastern Cuisine in Gipsy Hill (Indian) - 2015 winner
Livi's Cuisine in Mitcham (African)
Ambience Restaurant in Wimbledon (Turkish)
Capone’s Pizza Parlour in Croydon (Pizza)
Big Mike’s Calypso Kitchen in Croydon (Caribbean)
Pronto Paratha in Hounslow (Indian).

The general public has until 24th October 2016 to vote for which one of the 10 local takeaways they think has what it takes to be the best in South London.

In total, 14 awards will be presented. Each of the 13 regional winners will receive £1,000 and free sign up to Just Eat, or their sign-up fee returned if they are already a partner. But one of the 13 will be extra lucky as they will win the coveted award for Best British Takeaway in Britain and also receive a cheque for £5,000.

The 2015 winner of the first ever Best British Takeaway Award for South London was the Indian takeaway Eastern Cuisine. Since winning the award, the Gipsy Hill takeaway has seen a huge impact on business, which has seen staff increase by five, including four new drivers to help cope with increased orders for home deliveries, which can number 800 a month - up 40% since before the award win.

Graham Corfield, UK Managing Director of Just Eat, said: “The British Takeaway Awards are all about recognising and rewarding the diversity and excellence of the nation’s takeaway industry. Making it to the top ten best takeaways restaurants in South London is a great achievement as it means their customers think they are providing great food and excellent customer service.“
