Wimbledon A Step Closer To MK Dons Tie

Wimbledon 4 v York City 3 (AET)

Wimbledon beat 10-man York City in extra-time on Monday (November 12) to take them a step closer to a controversial FA Cup tie against MK Dons.

York had opened the scoring after an own goal by Wimbledon goalkeeper Seb Brown, but Charlie Strutton equalised on the 33rd minute. Soon after, York's Scott Kerr was dismissed for a professional foul.

Strutton scored again in the second half, before an 89th minute York goal by Jamie Reed took the match into extra-time.

Byron Harrison and Jack Midson scored for Wimbledon in the first half of extra-time. Reed scored again, but it was too late and the Dons are now through to the second round.

They will find out on Tuesday (November 13) who their next opponents will be. If MK Dons win their home replay against  against Cambridge City, they will be hosting Wimbledon in round two.

It would be the first time the clubs will have met in since MK Dons were created in 2004 - nine months after the original Wimbledon FC's controversial relocation to Milton Keynes in 2003 and its subsequent administration and renaming as AFC Wimbledon.
