New Hotel And Shops Plan For Wimbledon Town Centre

Developers to reveal full details at a public exhibition

Plans are being made to change the face of a significant stretch of Wimbledon Hill Road with a new hotel and shops development.

A public exhibition next week will reveal the details of proposals for the 'Bank Buildings' at 41-47 Wimbledon Hill Road in the town centre.

Developers want to refurbish and extend the buildings to create a "mixed use" scheme consisting of shops on the ground floor and a hotel on the upper storeys.

Halfhide JewellersThe ground floor buildings are currently occupied by a number of businesses, with Ernle Estates, Ludlow Thompson estate agents and the empty A E Halfhide jewellers due to leave the premises by the end of the month.

Three other businesses - Amity College, Access College and a hairdresser - are remaining on a temporary basis.

The developers say they are holding the exhibition to receive public feedback before submitting a planning application to Merton Borough Council.

The exhibition details are:

  • When: Thursday January 11, 2pm – 8pm
  • Where: Exhibition Room 1, Wimbledon Library, Wimbledon Hill Road.
