The First Wimbledon Comic Art Festival Is Coming Soon

Fun for all the family is promised at one-day event

The first Wimbledon Comic Art Festival, focusing on self-published small press comics, will be held in the town centre next month.

The event is being organised by singer turned comic book creator, Rik Jackson, who once literally brought the house down at a gig when his chandelier swinging antics led to part of the ceiling collapsing.

The one-day festival on Saturday November 11 will include fun for all the family, including drawing workshops, a visual storytelling session and the chance to chat with the writers and illustrators.

Special guests at the event in Merton Arts Space, which is inside Wimbledon Library, include Dan Butcher, creator of acclaimed comic book Vanguard about a group of British superheroes.

Merton Council’s Cabinet Member for Community and Culture, Councillor Nick Draper, said: “Every member of the family has their favourite comic book character and this festival is an opportunity to meet some new faces created by local artists. This event is a great way to showcase local talent and introduce art to new audiences. However, we’ve kindly requested that Rik stays away from our lighting.”
