A Challenging Event In Wimbledon

Young people set to be inspired

Around 100 young people from the Wimbledon area are expected to take part in a community sports day event on Thursday (April 11).

The young people have decided to theme this day: "I’m a Challenger Get Me Out of Here!"

They will take part in a series of physical activities and brain teasers throughout the afternoon and will be joined by local charity partners who will help deliver the sessions and guide the young people into volunteering opportunities in their local area.

The event, which takes at Wimbledon Methodist Church in Griffiths Road, is being organised to reconnect and inspire "The Challenge Society" members. The Challenge Society is a year-round programme that engages young people in community action and signposts them towards personal development opportunities, clubs, associations and volunteering.

The young people taking part are graduates of The Challenge, a youth and community programme that seeks to connect and inspire people to strengthen their communities.

The Challenge is part of the Government's flagship scheme, National Citizen Service (NCS). This year up to 30,000 16 and 17-year-olds are expected to complete NCS, a third of those through The Challenge programme. "The Challenge Sports Day" is open to NCS graduates and their friends.
