Help keep your local river clean
The Wandle Trust is back on its quest to remove rubbish from every stretch of the Wandle between Trewint Street and Plough Lane.
The next clean-up sees the Trust visiting the next 50m or so upstream from where they were in January.
It takes place at Weir Road in Wimbledon on Sunday May 12, with acccess to the Trail via the gate opposite Homebase's loading bay.
If you want to help, arrive in time for the Health and Safety briefing at 11am. If you arrive later than that, don't worry, you'll be asked to read the briefing and sign in to confirm your understanding of the guidelines, and agreement to adhere to them.
You'll work through until 3pm with a break at about 1pm for tea, coffee and cake provided by us. You may like to bring your own picnic lunch.
Organisers provide a number of pairs of safety chest waders for you to use as well as gloves and other pieces of equipment including litter pickers. Please wear old clothes you don't mind getting dirty and Wellingtons or walking-type boots for those who want to work on the banks. They have 'recycled' a number of pairs of waders, which have been cut down to Wellington boots, however these tend to be larger sizes. If you'd like to wear these, please remember to bring a pair of socks.
The weather may be changeable, so it's always worth bringing additional layers of clothing including waterproofs and a hat. Do bring a change of clothes too, just in case your waders spring a leak!
