Results of yesterday's council election
Labour won xx seats against the xx won by the Conservatives, to enable them to retain control of Merton Borough Council.
In the 2010 election, Labour had re-gained control from the Tories when they won 28 seats against the 27 secured by the Conservatives.
Labour were then able to run a minority council, with the backing of the three Merton Park Ward Independent Residents. A number of Merton's Tory councillors subsequently joined UKIP or declared themselves Independents.
And the result of yesterday's election, which was declared at xam today (May 24), means Labour will continue to run the council.
