Free NHS course is starting in South Wimbledon

A free NHS six-week course to help you become an 'Expert Patient' is starting in South Wimbledon on February 25 and there are still places available.

If you are living with - or caring for someone with - a long-term health condition such as diabetes, back pain, high blood pressure depression, anxiety, asthma, arthritis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) the Expert Patients Programme could be for you.

The Programme consists of six sessions, each lasting two and a half hours, run by trained volunteer tutors who also live with one or more long-term health conditions. 

It aims to help you feel more confident about managing your health and improve your quality of life. by teaching you new skills, giving practical advice, and allowing you to meet others and share similar experiences, in a friendly, informal and confidential environment.

People who have taken part say that it helps them to

  • ·         feel confident and more in control of their life
  • ·         manage their condition and treatment together with healthcare professionals
  • ·         be realistic about the impact of their condition on themselves and their family
  • ·         use their new skills and knowledge to improve their quality of life.

The February course will take place at South Wimbledon Community Centre every Thursday, starting on February 25. ​​
