Rail Commuters Hit By Snow Delays


But South West Trains to run as normal on Wednesday

South West Trains, the main overground operator from Wimbledon, are running a special timetable again on Tuesday (December 21) because of the adverse weather conditions.

But they say a normal service will return on Wednesday. To see the details of the special timetable for Tuesday, click here.

The Thameslink First Capital Connect service from Wimbledon to Sutton and London did not operate on Monday and is also running to a revised timetable on Tuesday, including no trains stopping at the City Thameslink station.

Staff were sent home from the Civic Centre's main building in Morden on Monday afternoon because of a fault in the heating system.

And Hollymount Primary School in Cambridge Road, Wimbledon, was closed on Tuesday because of frozen pipes.

Forecasters are predicting temperatures in Wimbledon will be down to -2 deg c on Wednesday.

The Met Office has also issued an alert for heavy snow and icy roads across London and the South East on Thursday, Friday and Christmas Day. The snow started falling in Wimbledon last Friday (December 17) and was soon sticking on the roads (the pictures below were taken on Friday afternoon).

AFC Wimbledon's home match against Wrexham was postponed on Saturday morning following a pitch inspection. It has been rescheduled for Tuesday 22 February 2011, kick off 7.45 pm. Meanwhile, the club is appealing for volunteers to start clearing the snow from the pitch, starting from 10am on Wednesday.
