Warning After Suspected Fraudster Tries Water Leak Con


Police put Wimbledon residents on their guard

Police have warned Wimbledon residents to be on their guard for a suspected fraudster who tried to con one homeowner out of £1,800.

The man knocked on the front door of a property in Wimbledon at 1.30pm on Wednesday (June 10) and said he was investigating a water leak in the street.

He managed to gain access to the property and went into the householder's bathroom where it is thought he deliberately used the shower hose to wet the floor.

He then stated that the cost of the work to repair the leak would be £1,800.

A police spokesman said: "It is strongly suspected that this male was trying to commit fraud. Please be vigilant when unexpected tradesman come to your door."

The suspected fraudster is said to be a white male, 5ft 11ins tall, of medium build, with short brown hair and an Irish accent. He was wearing a short-sleeved t-shirt with a Nike symbol, dark trousers and white trainers.
