Second Man Arrested After Suspected Firearms Incident in Wimbledon


Armed police involved in search but it is believed there is no terrorism link

Detectives investigating a suspected firearms incident in Wimbledon have arrested a second man.

The 31-year-old man [B] was arrested tonight (August 16) in Kingston on suspicion of possession of a firearm. He was taken into custody at a west London police station where he remains at this time.

Two suspected imitation firearms were also recovered.

At around 8.55am today (August 16) police were called to reports of a man seen in the Wimbledon area believed to be in possession of a firearm.

Local officers, armed officers and the British Transport Police attended Wimbledon Train Station in an attempt to locate the man. There were no reports of shots fired and no one was injured.

Enquires were undertaken and officers attended an address in Wimbledon Chase at 10.45am. A 29-year-old man [A] was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and possession of a class B drug. He remains in custody at a west London police station.
