Person died after being hit by a train at local station

A person has died after being hit by a train at Wimbledon station this morning (February 1), which has affected services through the station.

The incident took place not long after 11am, leaving South West Trains unable to call at the station for more than an hour.

The tube and train services were not affected. First Capital Connect services were involved for a time, but were soon back running.

British Transport Police (BTP), Metrolitan Police and London Ambulance crews were called to the scene.

A BTP said: "Officers from BTP and Metropolitan Police attended the incident, which was reported to police at 11.08am and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

"Medics from the London Ambulance Service also attended, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the person and inform their family. A file will be prepared for the Coroner.”

South West Trains cleared the line by around 12.30, but warned there would be further cancellations and delays until the service got back to normal. It said to expect delays until 4pm.
