The Merton Arts Trail Will Not Take Place In 2016

Organisers don't have a large enough team to take it forward

The Merton Arts Trail, in which local artists and craftmakers opened their doors to showcase their work, will not be taking place in 2016.

It has promoted the diversity of artistic talen in Merton, including many artists in and around Wimbledon, since it was first set up in 2011.

But this year the organisers have not been able to put together a large enough team to take the event forward and so decided there will be no Merton Arts Trail in 2016.

Last year more than 100 artists and craft makers showed their artworks from homes, studios, local businesses and galleries, in 60 venues around Merton.

But Wendy Bliss, Chrissie Craig and Linda O’Hara said they had explored a number of possibilities to keep the trail on the road before making the decision that there would be no event this year.

They added: "Many thanks to our friends and generous sponsors who have supported us since the trail's inception in 2011.

"We are very proud of what we have achieved together over the past five years, and feel that we have contributed to the emergence of a strong and enduring artistic community here in the London Borough of Merton.

"The door remains open for any interested parties to take up the baton!"
