Dundonald Rec Gets A New Playround

Landscaped public facility is now open

Dundonald Recreation Ground in Wimbledon now has a new public playground as part of the controversial expansion of Dundonald Primary School.

Dundonald Recreation Ground's new landscaped playground includes slides, swings, a roundabout, and a creative sand play zone.

Leader of the Council Councillor Stephen Alambritis, cabinet member for environmental sustainability and regeneration Councillor Andrew Judge and cabinet member for education Councillor Martin Whelton visited the recreation ground to see the first part of the council-funded improvements spring into life as children from Dundonald Primary School were the first to try it out.

Later this month, the council opens two new multi-use sports areas for the borough's tennis and netball enthusiasts.

Merton Council cabinet member for environmental sustainability and regeneration Councillor Andrew Judge said: "These are exciting times for Dundonald Recreation Ground and it is great to see the new playground open. I look forward to seeing many of our residents enjoy the new play equipment, especially as we see the days get longer and warmer."

Councillor Peter Walker added: "When as Cabinet member for Education, I announced plans to expand Dundonald Primary School four years ago, I said the school expansion would also benefit park users.

"The opening of the expanded new playground in Dundonald Park, is delivering the first part of the promise. I am delighted for local children and their parents. In the next year there will be a new accessible community meeting room, changing rooms for those using the parks pitches, and new public toilets."
