Join Merton's Summer Reading Challenge

Prizes are up for grabs at your local library

This year's record breakers-themed Summer Reading Challenge (SRC) kicks off in Merton's libraries on Saturday (July 11).

Children aged four to 11 years old are being challenged to read six books over the summer holidays. There are prizes to be won for those who meet the challenge. Almost 11,000 Merton children signed up last year, and this year is predicted to be even bigger.

Each library is hosting a range of events throughout the summer, including treasure hunts, craft sessions and much more.

Families are invited to pop into their local library or visit the council's website to find out the times and dates of the many free events held as part of the summer reading challenge.

Merton Council's cabinet member for community and culture, Councillor Nick Draper said: "I love meeting young people who take part in Merton's annual Reading Challenge. They enjoy it so much, and they often come up to tell me what they’ve read. Ask at your school! Pester your parents to take you to the library! Take part, and tell me about it!”
