Police Community Action Day Is Coming Up

Some of the initiatives will take place in Wimbledon

On Thursday (February 19), the police will be holding the second of several Community Action Days for 2015, in all boroughs across London.

In Merton, all 20 Merton Safer Neighbourhoods Teams with Local Policing Teams, Special Constables, Volunteer Police Cadets and others will be mounting a borough-wide series of operations and initiatives, equally across Mitcham, Morden and Wimbledon.

Inspector Darren Mercer said: "We will be building on the long-term good work of our neighbourhoods teams locally with community partners, and showcasing a wide range of engagement, advice and other events. The aims include developing relationships with often hard to reach sections of the community and responding to the "listening campaign", tackling locally identified issues.

"Each team will be holding a series of open public meetings at different times throughout the day, to welcome local people and talk about any issues of concern. Teams will also be mounting operations such as targeted patrols, traffic events with local authority partners, enforcing road safety, deterring offences and tackling illegal waste carrier activity."
