Full Steam Ahead For Church Fair

Fun for all the family in Merton Park

The annual summer fair of St Mary's parish church in Merton Park takes place on Saturday June 18.

Held in the semi-rural setting of the glebe field behind the church in Church Path, organisers promise a true community event offering something for all the family.

Stalls will include books, plants, cakes, toys, china and more. There will be a licensed bar and, in keeping with the "Englishness" of the event and its setting, a separate Pimms bar.

Sit-down lunches will be on offer together with a barbecue. Entertainment will include bands, dancers, a Punch & Judy show and a working model railway powered by real, minature steam engines – a treat for kids of all ages. The pictures right and below are from last year's event.

As well as being a great family day out, it is an opportunity to support a local parish church that also contributes extensively to local, national and international charities.

Organisations benefiting from St Mary’s charitable giving include Christian Care, Welcare, the Spires Centre in Streatham and the Physically Handicapped and Able Bodied Club of Merton.

In recent years, the success of events such as this has also enabled the church to make substantial contributions to the great work done by the local Merton Park Scout Group in Kenya. The fun runs from 11am-3pm.
