Merton's Parking Rules Made Public

Document detailing guidelines is released

Drivers in Merton can now read the guidelines issued to parking attendants after the council publicised its Parking Enforcement Policy document.

The 76-page document lists all the rules governing the issuing of Parking Contravention Notices in Merton.

It formally reveals the 'grace period' allowed before tickets are issued - 5 minutes after the expiry of a paid for pay & display ticket and 14 days after the expiry of a permit, as well as "time allowance" to pick up from schools.

It does not include details on moving traffic offences and the policy on the use of mobile camera units, but Merton Borough Council says it will release this in early November.

Merton Council cabinet member for performance and implementation Councillor Mark Betteridge said: "We know people want to see our parking policy for themselves, and we have now updated it and published it on our website. The document includes everything you would need to know about parking and the legislation within which we work.

"Residents tell us in the annual residents' survey, tha congestion is a top concern. We need to keep traffic moving and enforcing the rules of the road is one way we can do this. We will always be fair and reasonable in our enforcement."

The document can be viewed via this link.
