Police Hunt After Merton Shop Murder


Warning not to approach the suspect

Detectives investigating the murder of a man in a bookmakers' shop in Merton are warning people not to approach the suspect.

Victim Andrew Iacovou, aged 55, from the Sutton area, was attacked in the shop in Aberconway Road, Morden, on Saturday May 25.

Officers were called by London Ambulance Service at around 10.30am to reports of a man suffering serious head injuries at the venue. Mr Iacovoa was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination held at St George's Hospital in Tooting, gave the cause of death as blunt trauma to the head.

At this early stage, it appears Mr Iacovoa was attacked in the shop by a lone male suspect. It is not known at this time whether any money was taken.

Members of the public should not approach the man and are advised to contact police immediately.

  • A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of his murder on Thursday (May 30) at an address in east London and was taken to custody at a south London police station.
