Survey reveals costs of burials and cremations
A survey of the rising costs of burials and cremations in the UK has revealed that Merton is one of the most expensive boroughs.
The GMB trade union survey shows that the average cost of a funeral in the UK has jumped past £7,000.
The most expensive place to be buried is in Lambeth, which charges £5,329 - but Merton comes 4th on the list at £4,125.
Cremations, which are cheaper than acquiring a burial plot, cost £3,464 in the City of London - the most costly borough in the survey. Merton comes 14th, with a cremation cost of £1,786.
