Martial arts expert to run sessions

Martial arts expert Leoni Munslow is running free self-defence classes for women at various venues across Merton, including Wimbledon.

The sessions are being offered through Neighbourhood Watch, who point out that the chances of being attacked are very unlikely, but the classes will be teach skills that could assist in dealing with confrontational situations.

The training is being offered free of charge but participants will need to commit to two 90 minute sessions over two weeks (one session each week).

The sessions take place as follows:

September 14 and 21 - 11.30am-1.00pm - Raynes Park - St Matthews Church Hall, Spence Road (j/w Durham Road).
October 12 and 19 - 7pm-8.30pm -  Mitcham Police Station.
November 29 and December 6 - 7pm-8.30pm - Morden - Civic Centre.
December 7 and 14 - 11am-12.30pm - Wimbledon - Venue to be confirmed.

The sessions are being run by Leoni Munslow, who has 20 years experience in martial arts and holds a black belt in Japanese Jiu Jitsu, a brown belt in Judo and a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ).

An active competitor in domestic and international competitions, Leoni is the current British Champion in BJJ and has been nominated "UK female competitor of the year 2010" by the European Fight Network.
