A man in his twenties remains in hospital with serious head injuries a month after being the victim of an unprovoked assault in Wimbledon Village.

He was with a friend on High Street Mews at about 2.25am on 8 March when he was set upon by a gang. Police believe the attack may have been a case of mistaken identity. The other man has since been discharged from hospital.

Detectives investigating have released CCTV footage and stills showing two males and two females they wish to speak to.

Acting Detective Sergeant Simon Monga said, “The victims were subjected to a frightening ordeal in a completely unprovoked attack while they were walking home. They were punched and kicked to the floor and assaulted further.

“Nothing was stolen from them and we believe this could have been a case of mistaken identity.

“One of the victims remains in hospital and will do so for many weeks.

“I implore anyone who recognises these individuals to contact us and tell us what they know.”
