Man punches stranger in unprovoked assault on route 93

A CCTV image has been released of a man police wish to speak to in connection with an unprovoked assault on a bus travelling between Wimbledon and Morden.

At around 11.20pm, on Friday, 5 February a man boarded a number 93 bus and sat on the lower deck where he began drinking from a can of lager. After a short time he struck up a conversation with a 46-year-old man, who was standing by the rear door getting ready to exit.

For no apparent reason, the suspect suddenly punched the man in the face with such force that he fell backwards off the bus and into the street at London Road, Morden. The assault continued on the pavement before the attacker ran away. The victim was taken to hospital where he required stitches for injuries to his face.

The suspect is described as white, aged between 20 and 25, of slim build, about 5ft 5 inches tall with dark hair. He was wearing light coloured jeans, ‘Nike’ trainers, a dark coloured jacket with a fur-rimmed hood and a dark patterned rucksack.
