Census Bus Rolls Into Town

Get help in Wimbledon with your census form

The star of the 2011 Census TV adverts, the purple origami double-decker bus, is visiting Wimbledon on Thursday (March 31) giving people who require assistance the opportunity to hop on board and complete their questionnaire.

The bus (pictured right at Tower Bridge) will be parked in Wimbledon Town Centre, at the Piazza from 1pm-4.30pm and all residents are welcome.

People will be able to stop by with their questionnaires and receive help in completing them. The team on board will also be able to issue new questionnaires to people who have misplaced them, or who do not have them with them on the day.

The team on the bus will also be able to provide information in a variety of different languages which should help people understand why the census is so important, and answer any queries they have about the process they need to follow. Earlier in the day, the bus will be at Mitcham Fair Green, from 10am–12.30pm.

Keith Richmond, 2011 Census Area Manager for Merton, said: "While most people will be able to complete their census questionnaires without assistance, some may require clarification on how to answer some of the questions, so in addition to the help online and telephone helpline, we are also getting out and about and giving people the opportunity for some early face-to-face help.

"Census questionnaires can be completed on paper, or online, as soon as they are received but should reflect the living situation on March 27. Anyone expecting a baby or getting married might want to wait until after March 27 to complete theirs so the information is up to date.”

The census is an estimate of the population, carried out by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) every ten years.

Everyone is asked the same questions on the same day so that we can take a snapshot of the population at one point in time. Information from the census is used by central and local government to help plan and deliver local services to meet the various needs of the population.
