Celebrate Care Home Open Day In Wimbledon

Local homes open their doors to the public

Care homes in Wimbledon are opening their doors to the local community to celebrate Care Home Open Day on Friday (June 16).

Queens Court Care Home on Queens Road is holding their event from 2pm-5pm on Friday (June 16). Residents and guests will enjoy a dance club, home tours, reminiscence workshop and homemade refreshments.

Wimbledon Beaumont on Arterberry Road is also throwing open their doors for the day with entertainment from 2pm-5pm, tea and scones. Staff will be on hand to show people around the home.

Care Home Open Day is celebrated by care homes across the country and the emphasis is on the importance of connecting with local communities, developing lasting relationships and encouraging intergenerational rapport.

This year’s Care Home Open Day is being marked in conjunction with The Big Lunch and also coincides with the Great Get Together in celebration of Jo Cox’s belief that we have ‘more in common than that which divides us’.

The Big Lunch, part of the Eden Project in Cornwall and an annual event, aims to get as many people as possible to share lunch together in an act of friendship that will encourage communities to connect and help to prevent isolation amongst those who may be living alone.

Everyone is welcome to come along to these free events to meet the amazing people who live and work in local care homes and have fun together.
