Wimbledon Morris Men Uphold English Tradition

Chance to join them in the New Year!

The Wimbledon-based Greensleeves Morris Men are looking for more people to join them in 2012.

Greensleeves, founded in 1926 and based in Wimbledon since 1980, perform at various venues throughout the summer, including local pubs.

Their core repertoire is based on the dances of the villages of Fieldtown in Oxfordshire and Sherborne in Gloucestershire. They also dance dances from other villages in the Cotswolds, the Welsh borders and Lichfield in Staffordshire.

They dance to pipe and tabor, melodeon, piano accordion, concertina and violin. They are often accompanied by an animal called Hengist and by one of number of fools.

They are looking for new recruits and are staging special open evenings in the Annexe at South Wimbledon Community Centre on Haydons Road, on 6, 13, 20 and 27 January.

Newcomers are also welcome at all practices, which are from 8pm-10pm on Friday evenings between September and May.
