Merton Gets Set For Cold Winter

Council stocks up on salt

Merton Council is stocking up for this winter's cold weather with 2,400 tonnes of grit salt.

Following the cold weather last year and the unexpected amount of snow, the council says its salt stocks are at maximum capacity.

Councillor Andrew Judge, cabinet member for environmental sustainability and regeneration, said: "We are in a good position to handle tough winter conditions. We take the safety of our residents very seriously and have therefore ensured we have enough grit to see us through any potential harsh weather that may come our way.

"Our grit stocks will help us ensure Merton can keep moving, and residents and commuters travelling through Merton can do so safely."
