Surrey Lane Murder Victim Named


21-year-old Malachi Brooks died after being stabbed


Detectives investigating the fatal stabbing in Surrey Lane in the early hours of Tuesday morning have named the victim as 21-year-old Malachi Brooks from Battersea.

On Tuesday 28 March police were called at just after 1am to reports of a man stabbed in Surrey Lane. Police found 21-year-old Malachi suffering from stab injuries and he was pronounced dead at the scene under an hour later.

A post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as a stab wound to the heart.

Malachi was originally from Brixton and was a former pupil of Southfields Academy. He is reported to have moved to Battersea to be with his girlfriend Rebecca Nowland who said, "He wasn't just my boyfriend he was my best friend, my rock." Her brother Ben described him as "the brother I never had".

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating, and are appealing for anyone with information about this incident to come forward.

Detective Inspector Tony Lynes, who is leading the investigation, said, "This was a brutal attack on a young man. We are still trying to establish the circumstances behind this incident, and we are appealing to anybody who was in the area at around the time of the attack - from 00:45am onwards - or who lives nearby and may have seen or heard something to come forward and speak to officers as soon as possible."
