Businesses Give Their Views on Wimbledon Traffic Plans

£2.5m to be spent on transport improvements over next 18 months

Business leaders are being invited to a workshop to give their views on plans to spend £2.5m on transport improvements in Wimbledon in the next 18 months.

The plans have been put together by Merton Council, South West Trains, Transport for London and Network Rail and are part of an overall strategy to improve Wimbledon in the run-up to the 2012 Olympics.

The council is encouraging all businesses in the area to send representatives to the Destination Wimbledon workshop at Tapanco restaurant in Hartfield Road on Thursday April 22.

It says it will outline its plans to improve the street scene in the area, before asking the business representatives to debate the ideas and give their feedback to officers.

A major facelift for Wimbledon Station forecourt has already been announced and the Going for Gold campaign, which brings together local stakeholders, has identified traffic congestion and lack of parking facilities as challenges to be addressed before 2012.
