Spamalot Tour To Open In Wimbledon

Monty Python's musical comedy at the New Wimbledon Theatre

Monty Python's Spamalot musical comedy will open its second UK tour at the New Wimbledon Theatre on May 29.

Said to be “lovingly ripped off” from the 1975 film, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, it tells the legendary story of King Arthur and his knights of the Round Table.

It played in the West End at the Palace Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue for more than two years from September 2006. It was to be followed by a UK tour last year, but that was cancelled.

But a vast UK tour has just been announced, taking it right round the country, opening in Wimbledon, and finishing in Aylesbury in 2011.

This production will star Jodie Prenger, who landed the role of Nancy in the revival production of Oliver! at Theatre Royal Drury Lane having won BBC 1's I'd Do Anything. For that performance, she won the 2010 Whatsonstage Theatregoer's Choice Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical.

The voice of Eric Idle, who wrote the score with John du Prez, will appear as God. Other cast members are yet to be announced.

The show features catchy tunes, such as “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life”, with show girls, cows, killer rabbits and French people also set to appear!

It plays at the New Wimbledon Theatre from May 29 – June 5. For further information, see www.ambassadortickets.com/wimbledon or ring the box office on 0844 871 7646.
