Details of the Olympic Torch Route Through Ealing

Nationwide route is revealed

You will get your chance to see the Olympic Torch as it passes through Ealing on Tuesday, July 24.

The flame arrives from Denham about 5pm and will be carried by volunteers in the Northala Fields, Northolt. Northala Fields has its own Olympic link. The grassy mounds there were built using rubble from the old Wembley Stadium which hosted the games in 1948.

It will then head south along Kensington Road into Lady Margaret Road before hitting Southall High Street where it will head east along Uxbridge Road to Ealing Broadway.

In Ealing town centre it will turn right into Ealing High Street, pass the historic Ealing Studios in Ealing Green before reaching its final destination at Walpole Park. An evening of free family entertainment will be held at the park to celebrate Ealing being one of only six London boroughs chosen to host the Olympic torch in an over-night stopover

Ealing is one of only six boroughs in the captial which will host the torch overnight.

The torch will be taken to Harrow the following morning where it will head north to Haringey.

The names of local torchbearers haven't yet been revealed.

Ealing Council Leader Councillor Julian Bell said: “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I hope Ealing residents will be inspired by the spirit of the Olympics and will line the streets to cheer on the Olympic flame as it travels through our borough. It is fantastic that our young people today are showing their support for such a momentous occasion.”

Full details of entertainment provided by Olympic sponsors at the evening event and information on how to get tickets for the roadshow will be announced shortly.

Residents can keep updated on news relating to the event by registering on the council’s website www.ealing.gov.uk/register and opting to receive information on ‘Olympics 2012 local events’.
