Whilst the bridge is closed take time to discover new or old favourites

Putney Bridge is currently closed for essential repairs but Putney Town Centre is open for business and would welcome you to come and discover the beauty of Putney, the great range of retail shops, fine restaurants and pubs, relaxing cafes, excellent entertainment and of course the river bank.

Each day during the bridge closure works the Town Centre Manager will identify a gem of Putney which she recommends you visit.

Week 7 - Focus on Upper Richmond Road

Tuesday 26th - Lazaru Artisan Bakery
Located at 232 Upper Richmond Road, Lazaru is a new bakery providing traditional homely breads cakes and pastries to the Putney community. They pride themselves on their community focus, low Eco-impact policies with regard to packaging, energy, sourcing and waste and avoidance of anything artificial in their products. Above all else they pride themselves in producing the highest quality that their customers deserve and expect.
Lazaru offers more types of bread than you could begin to imagine - Chorizo olive bred stick, rye with caraway seeds, potato bread. A lovely friendly owner who named the shop after his grandfather.

Wednesday 27th - Pied Piper
Pied Piper, 234 Upper Richmond Road is a family run shoe shop and has been in Putney for over 25 years. They offer lots of children’s shoes, ballet wear and dancewear. They specialise in top quality shoes from leading suppliers; Startrite, Ricosta, Geox, Superfit, Primigi, Toughees. Their popular ballet and dance wear meets all institution standards (Royal Academy of Dance approved) and they are proud to supply the local schools. They stock shoes, boots, trainers, wellingtons, slippers and gym shoes.

They are a traditional shop with traditional values. They are proud to be the oldest independent store in Putney. At Pied Piper they always put your children first. They offer expert and free advice on your child’s feet and will only recommend a shoe if your child needs it.

Thursday 28th - Bibo
At
146 Upper Richmond Road is a new modern Italian restaurant and bar in Putney. They aim to be a sophisticated yet approachable neighbourhood restaurant where you will be greeted with a smile and served with grace and charm. The menu is limited but therefore made with extra care and attention, all freshly cooked and nicely presented. The wine list is extensive ranging from a reasonably priced house wine to some very special more expensive wines. The ambience is good, music in the background, just loud enough to hear but you could still have a conversation without having to raise your voices.

The owner has a few other restaurants but is new to Putney – give it a try, you’ll be pleased you did.


Friday 29th - Physio 4 Life

Physio4life, Award-winning physiotherapy, massage and sports injury treatment was founded in 2002 by clinic director, Mark Saunders, who gained extensive experience working in the NHS, Professional Rugby and the Army as a Physiotherapist and Biomechanical specialist. Mark designed the clinic within the purpose built Putney Medical Centre on Upper Richmond Road himself using his professional expertise to ensure the clinic provides an ideal treatment environment with a relaxed and professional atmosphere where the emphasis is on the needs of our clients.

Saturday 30th - Putney Arts Theatre

On the corner of Upper Richmond Road and Ravenna Road Putney Arts Theatre is a community theatre celebrating fifty years this year.

Formed in 1964 out of the coming together of a couple of local community drama groups, they began life as Group 64. In 1968 they inhabited the old union church with the help of a Lottery and Arts Council Grant they gained the freehold in the late 1990s. In 1999 they joined with Putney Players to become Putney Theatre Company with Group 64 still continuing for the younger people.

They offer a variety of work which can be bold, adventurous, challenging, classic, new and sometimes more than a little bit silly. Above all, the work always strives to be of the highest standard.

Not many town centres can boast to have a theatre and Putney Arts theatre relies on its volunteers to keep running and its active members and visitors to keep supporting. Have a look at What is currently on you’ll be sure to find something that interests you.

Sunday 31st - Double Gems this Sunday
Russell-Cooke

GAZETTE is described by owners Pascal Even and Walter Lecocq as a rural style of French brasserie, one you’d find in Provincial areas of France.

They both want it to reflect the spirit of local French cafés and offer a cuisine that is simple, generous and vivacious, with lots of daily specials and on-going food events, and where transpires the warmth and cordiality of true French cuisine.

Their other site in Balham offers very popular childrens cooking events which will soon come to the Putney site.
