Specialist officers conducting extensive search around Hanwell

Police divers have been brought in to search the Grand Union Canal in the hunt for missing Alice Gross.

The 14-year-old disappeared last Thursday and a huge hunt has been underway since.

Analysis of CCTV showed that the last sighting of Alice was on the afternoon of Thursday 28 August. She was seen walking north towards her home in Hanwell by the Holiday Inn in Brentford.

On 2 September the purple rucksack she was seen carrying was discovered by the towpath.

Today, Alice's mother has told the BBC that her daughter had recently been diagnosed with anorexia and she made an emotional appeal for her to return home.

The part of the Grand Union Canal being searched between Brentford and Hanwell is the engineered part of the River Brent which links it to the Thames. It is semi-tidal making any search more difficult.
