A young rower from Ealing has become his club's first ever winner in the doubles event at the recent Thames Valley Regatta.

Patrick Keating was paired with Angelos Karagiannis from Hounslow represnting Brentford Boat Club at the event.

The pair’s win was in a tightly contested event and amidst very challenging weather. Patrick said, ‘We were thrilled to get first place, particularly as Brentford Boat Club had not raced at this event before.’

Angelos added, ‘The conditions were tricky but our training, support from our club and team spirit helped cement our win’.

Brentford Boat Club entered and reached a total of fourteen semi-finals and six finals at the regatta. In addition to Patrick and Angelos’s first place, the final count included silver places for two crews - WJ15 Doubles & WJ15 Single - and a bronze for three crews - J18 8+, J14 8+, J16 4+.

A spokesperson for the club said, “This is a tremendous achievement by any standard, all the more so for a relatively young club, comprised of members coming from many different schools. With fantastic rowing opportunities on offer for young many people and its competitive successes, Brentford Boat Club is now firmly on the UK Rowing Map.”

Brentford Boat Club is a community and volunteer-run charity club which welcomes new members from all levels. It is one of the few organisations providing access for local children offering both successful performance and youth recreational rowing opportunities.

Currently operating from portacabins at Ferry Quays, it aims to have a Community Boat House with basic facilities for future generations.
