Wimbledon Panto Raises Charity Funds

Merton's Mayor enjoys Cinderella

The inaugural Mayor's Night has taken place during this year's panto at New Wimbledon Theatre.

The Mayor of Merton, Councillor Agatha Akyigina attended along with the Deputy Mayor of Merton, Councillor Laxmi Attawar and other Merton councillors from the London Borough of Merton.

The Mayor's Night is set to become an annual pantomime event in which the theatre raises money for the Mayor's elected local charities, which this year were Shooting Star Chase and Merton Street Pastors.

Calum Kemp, who joined New Wimbledon Theatre as General Manager in October 2014, said: "We were thrilled to welcome The Mayor and her fellow councillors to New Wimbledon Theatre for our critically acclaimed production of Cinderella. We hope to continue this visit on an annual basis and raise monies for key charities in our community."

The Mayor's visit raised more than £300 for the two charities and the councillors got to enjoy a post show meet and greet with the cast (see right), including Linda Gray, Tim Vine, Matthew Kelly and Matthew Rixon, Wayne Sleep and Amy Lennox.
