HeART of Wimbledon Parkside, an exhibition of artwork by local Wimbledon artists, is to be held at St Paul’s Church, Wimbledon Parkside.

It begins with an Open Day on Saturday 25 September, 2–6pm and then runs during church opening times until Thursday 7 October.

From 6 – 8 pm on 7 October there will be a special viewing of the exhibition with music, and wine and soft drinks will be available. There will be a Silent Auction of the items on display, in aid of St Paul’s community and youth projects with around 20 artworks to bid for, at a range of price points, and they range from Sarah Ollerenshaw’s landscape oil paintings to cartoons by Mike Stokoe (who contributes to Punch magazine and The Spectator) and various styles in between.

St Paul’s Church and Community Centre has suffered, like so many, from reduced income as a result of the Covid pandemic. Nevertheless during 2020 it opened a community Pantry to provide basic groceries and other essentials to those in need in the local area. St Paul’s Angels – a network of individuals who provide support such as help with shopping, collecting prescriptions or just a friendly listening ear, to anyone in need was also set up.

The above are ongoing projects, and the church is now focusing on fundraising in order to employ a part-time youth worker to reach out to young people in the community.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We’ve always done that and won’t be changing, in fact we’d like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.
