|Fund-raising Concert For Local Music Group|
Education projects under threat
A group providing classical chamber music concerts in and around Wimbledon, as well as musical activities for children, is staging a special fund-raising evening.
The Jigsaw Players had just finished their third season of concerts when they heard Merton council would not be funding their education projects for next year.
The group will be holding a fund-raising event at the Light House restaurant, involving a concert followed by a three-course meal.
A spokesman for the Jigsaw Players said: "The morning of our last concert, we found out that the council was not going to fund our education projects for next year which was devastating news as the workshops were so greatly received by the children and parents.
Last year they received £1,500 from Merton council, as well as a one-off grant of £5,000.
The fund-raising concert takes place at 7.30pm on Sunday September 4 at the Light House on The Ridgeway in Wimbledon Village. It features Dvořák's Miniatures Op. 75a and Mozart's "Hunt" String Quartet K.458.
Special guest and Patron of the Jigsaw Players, renown Russian conductor, Vladimir Jurowski, will introduce the evening.
The evening costs £50, including a glass of fizz upon arrival, a three course seasonal meal, a glass of wine and coffee. For reservations call: 07738 707 516.
