London's Online Event Calendar Being Finalised
The deadline for submitting final details for London's Culture Diary is March 31.
The Culture Diary is a planning tool developed by the Mayor of London in conjunction with visit London to collect information about cultural events and activities throughout 2012. More than 1,100 events have already been submitted to the diary.
Large event organisers in the borough are being asked to register now to ensure the city’s public and emergency services have time to plan ahead to allocate resources to support events that have a capacity of more than 1,000 per day.
Smaller events should still register as the Culture Diary is an online events calendar and will act as a planning and co-ordination tool for all events happening in 2012.
The Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: "There's no doubt that London will be the place to be in 2012, whether you live here or travel in to experience the huge array of events taking place in the most exciting year of the capital's long history.
"We want to ensure the plethora of planned events and celebrations can go ahead safely and we need to start planning now. So sign up to The Culture Diary or start talking to your borough and help us showcase our spectacular city."
Merton Council cabinet member for community and culture, Councillor Martin Whelton added: "We want the people and businesses of Merton to take as much advantage as possible of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games coming to the capital. The diary is a great platform to promote local events to the millions of extra people expected to be in the country for London 2012."
