Police are warning that bogus tradesmen have been knocking on doors in Merton, claiming they are working on a Government-backed loft insulation scheme.

They have been reported in the "Apostle Roads" area of Raynes Park, where they have been operating from 6pm-8pm.

Police say the men each have a clip board which can make them look legitimate, but they have no identification nor contact details or literature from the company they are working for and have been said to be acting suspiciously.

Police Community Support Officer Daniel Targett said: "After speaking to Merton council I can confirm there are currently two schemes being run in regards to loft and cavity wall insulation within the Merton borough, these are performed by Osborne Energy and London Warm Zones.

"Any employees or sub contractors performing these legitimate surveys will have identification and some form of documentation in relation to the scheme and the company they are working for.

"If you have anyone who comes to your door ask for identification and establish who they are. In relation to the recent burglaries in this location I would ask residents not give too many personal details especially any days, dates or times that you won’t be in.

"If you suspect any suspicious behavior call the Dundonald team on 0208-721-2450 or in emergency 999."
