Merton residents are being asked to adopt their own green space.

Residents in the borough are being offered the chance to decide how they will improve the look of a local park or roadside area by working in partnership with Merton Council's parks and highways teams.

The initiative is the brainchild of local organisations Transition Town Wimbledon and Sustainable Merton.

Merton council's Cabinet member for environmental sustainability and regeneration, Councillor Andrew Judge said: "This initiative is a good way for local people to have direct input into maintaining green space in their area. We are keen to work with community groups who take pride in their environment and want to invest time to take care of it.”

Adopt a Green Space co-ordinator John White said: "It's great to be working with the council on this initiative. It is up to residents how much they take on. Everyone can play an important role maintaining green spaces around the borough."
